The Romanovs and the Russo-Turkish War: 1877-78

In this episode of Fexingo History, Lucas and Luna explore the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78, a conflict that redrew the map of the Balkans and set the stage for World War I. They follow the dramatic Siege of Plevna, where Russian and Romanian forces faced a determined Ottoman defense led by Osman Pasha, and examine the crucial role of Mikhail Skobelev, the 'White General,' whose bold tactics captured the Shipka Pass. The conversation spans the diplomacy of the Congress of Berlin, the creation of the Principality of Bulgaria, and the rise of pan-Slavism in Russia. Along the way, they discuss the war's brutal cost in lives, the leadership of Grand Duke Nicholas, and the long-term consequences for the Romanov dynasty, whose prestige was enhanced but whose military vulnerabilities were exposed. With vivid detail, they bring to life the battles, the key figures, and the geopolitical maneuvering that made this war a turning point in European history. #RussoTurkishWar #Plevna #ShipkaPass #OsmanPasha #MikhailSkobelev #AlexanderII #GrandDukeNicholas #CongressOfBerlin #Bulgaria #PanSlavism #1877 #1878 #RomanovDynasty #Balkans #OttomanEmpire #RussianEmpire #History #FexingoHistory Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
