The Romanovs' Secret Police: The Okhrana and the Birth of Modern Espionage

In this episode of Fexingo History, Lucas and Luna dive into the shadowy world of the Okhrana, the Romanovs' secret police. From its founding in 1881 after the assassination of Alexander II to its role in the 1917 revolutions, the Okhrana was a pioneer of modern surveillance and counterintelligence. Discover how agents like Pyotr Rachkovsky ran operations from Paris, how the infamous Yevno Azef was both a terrorist and a police spy, and how the Okhrana's methods—including agent provocateurs and global wiretapping—prefigured today's intelligence agencies. The conversation also touches on the Okhrana's infiltration of revolutionary movements, its impact on figures like Lenin and Stalin, and the unsettling question of whether the system created more radicals than it suppressed. A chilling, fascinating look at the birth of the police state. #Okhrana #RussianEmpire #SecretPolice #SpyHistory #PyotrRachkovsky #YevnoAzef #AgentProvocateur #AlexanderII #TsaristRussia #RevolutionaryMovements #Lenin #Stalin #Surveillance #Counterintelligence #EasternEurope #History #FexingoHistory #HiddenHistory Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
