Currently, 127 million Americans are overweight or obese. In the last 20 years, the number of children who are overweight has doubled and the number of teenagers who are overweight has tripled. Americans consume on average an extra 500 calories per day. Since the 1950s, the fat content in our diet has increased from 48 to 80 grams. (March 15, 2007)
