This Friday, March 25th, marks the 111th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. Over a hundred garment workers died that day in Greenwich Village. Historians say many more people could have survived the 1911 fire were it not for the sweatshop's poor safety conditions. Long ago the site was purchased by NYU and renamed the Brown Building, which now houses science labs. WNYU's Nandini Gupta has more on the tragic fire and its aftermath. Right after graduating NYU Tisch School of the Arts last year, she opened up her own private tattoo studio in Manhattan. She talked to me about how she creates a safe tattooing space for women and non-binary folks, where she draws her feminine art inspiration from, and finally, what it's like to be a female in a male-dominated industry. Elizabeth Carlisle talks to Anna Wilkings, an NYU professor and licensed sex therapist and social worker, about what the realities of sex work and what decriminalizing it would entail.
