The socialists are driven underground, imprisoned or exiled in large numbers. As the Social Democratic Parties of Europe grow in power and influence. Mensheviks and Bolsheviks look to their comrades for support and example, particularly the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Meanwhile, the prospect of world war looms in the background, threatening to destroy the world as they knew it.
