The Sad, Pathetic Path of Selfie Religion
from The Olive Branch Markham • Audio Podcast · host The Olive Branch Church
This is Part 8 of our message series, "The Big, Hairy, Ugly Roots of Unhappiness". You know I was thinking about this, one of the funniest things I ever saw was someone holding one of these selfie sticks and giving money to someone who was homeless. And I thought, you know, Jesus would have a lot of fun with selfies. Because he talked about, the sad pathetic trail of selfie religion. Basically, doing your prayers to get likes. Or giving money to other people to get likes. Or fasting to get likes. Does it please God when we do good things for others? Of course it does! Our call is to love others as we love ourselves—but it doesn’t earn eternal life! And if you do it for the wrong motives—that is, to be admired by others, you’ve lost the plot.
