The Safety Harness
from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick
Every fall, experienced hunters — men with decades in the woods — get hurt falling from treestands. Not rookies. Veterans. The ones who hung stands a hundred times and decided the harness was for other people. Confidence without precaution is how strong men hit the ground.Paul issued the same warning to the Corinthians: if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall. The most dangerous moment in a man's spiritual life is often not his weakest — it's when he feels strongest. Untouchable. Past temptation. Too experienced to fail. That's when the guard drops and the fall comes. The safety harness of the soul is humility plus honest safeguards: accountability, boundaries you don't cross even when you feel strong, brothers who can ask you anything. Wearing the harness isn't weakness. It's what men do who plan to still be climbing in twenty years.Prayer:Lord, guard me from the pride that says I'm past falling. The moment I feel untouchable is the moment I'm in the most danger.Keep me strapped in — humble, accountable, honest about my weak points. I'd rather wear the harness than learn the hard way. Amen.Challenge:Do a safety check on your soul: name the area where you feel most confident you'd 'never fall.' That's the one to guard. Put one concrete safeguard around it this week — a boundary, an accountability question, an honest conversation.
