Simon Templar had a visit from a cowboy named McGowan but known as Tex. Seems that someone was trying to kill him as he was bushwhacked stepping out of a taxi in New York. In a couple of days he was due in Chicago to see a guy who knew he was coming but wasn’t hankering after seeing him seems he was trying to make sure Tex didn’t make it.
