They got it wrong. As of today, there is no argument that backs the Titans’ decision to pass on Sam Darnold. Darnold wanted to come to Tennessee. He didn’t sign a massive free-agent deal. Minnesota explored trading him on the tag and found no takers. If I were running the Titans, Sam Darnold would be the quarterback. Instead, the Titans drafted Cam Ward — a 3-win QB who finished dead last among qualifying quarterbacks in both PFF passing grade and QBR. Maybe Cam becomes Mahomes. Maybe Sam Darnold turns into a pumpkin. Maybe I become President in 2028. But today, the debate is over.
