The Science Of Stress 10% Happier Self Care Journey  - 12/23/19 Notes ° Adrenaline increases your heart rate preparing you for action. ° Breathing speeds up to increase oxygen to the brain ° Norepinephrine - another hormone similar to adrenaline is released to increase arousal and energy. ° Cortisol increases sugar level giving extra energy. ° Cortisol also curbs functions that would be nonessential or detrimental in a fight-or-flight situation ° Stress hormones are natural and in the right circumstances can be life saving. ° If we learn to "lean into" the feeling of stress instead of running  away from it it won't own us and we can use the experience to make  better decisions. ° Bringing awareness to the body and out of the head can help us to deescalate. ° Learning to "feel" the body can help us to separate the reality of  what's going on from the mental loop or story going on in our heads.
