The Search For Deacons and Deaconesses After God's Heart (Part 1)

Say HiThe Deacon’s ministry is one of God’s gifts to the body of Christ. It was necessitated by the rapid growth of the early church and its attendant challenges. In order to deal with the protest from the Grecian Jews over the neglect of their widows in the church welfare program, the Lord led the Apostles to direct the congregation to choose seven men who could be trusted with the business of serving tables, and thereby deal with the emerging crisis. The result of this decision was positive for the early church. The scripture attest to this in Acts 6:7Unfortunately, the trajectory of the Diaconate ministry in some contemporary churches is a complete deviation. Deaconship has been more of a curse in some churches than a blessing. This however should not be so for any reason. It is therefore important that we re-discover God’s purpose for the Deacon’s Ministry. This would help us to operate according to Biblical pattern and thus experience the benefits that accrue from it.The Lord has helped Ikoyi Baptist Church(IBC) over the years in the election of Deacons. By the grace of God, He will help us again. May we all cooperate with the spirit of the living God again to choose those He has ordained for this set time. May we not choose based on personal sentiments or any of such carnal ways.
