The Second One with Ben Watkiss

from The LGBT Sport Podcast · host BBC Radio Cornwall

The last time that Ben Watkiss was on the podcast, he was working for League One’s Burton Albion as a strength and conditioning coach. Now, he’s crossed the border to Scotland – where he’s working as the Lead Sport Scientist for Ayr United, who play in the Scottish Championship where they’re currently sitting in a mid-table position. And the last time Ben was on, back in April of 2021, men’s football looked like a very different place – with no Jakub Jankto, no Jake Daniels, no Josh Cavallo, no Zander Murray, no James Adcock when it came to out, visible gay male role-models in the men’s game. So, we thought it was high-time to get Ben back on the podcast to have a catch-up, both about his life and how the men’s game has changed over the past couple of years. We talk adapting to life in Scotland, doing his job during the pandemic, being an out gay man in football, how Ayr United helped him share his story with the club and loads, loads more. As always, Ben is a brilliant guest to have – open, honest, chatty, upbeat and really good value as a person to chat with – so we think you’re really going to like this conversation.WANT TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST?: @bwatkiss96WANT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE PODCAST?: @jack_murley [email protected]
