The Secret Language of Emojis: How They’ve Changed the Way We Communicate Emotion

from Science Exposed · host Science Exposed

In today’s world of instant messaging and social media, emojis have become essential for expressing emotions and feelings. To explore how emojis have evolved in the past decade, we reviewed over 1,000 research papers, narrowing it down to 42 studies focusing on emoji-based emotional communication. The studies highlight two key trends: (1) helping users choose the right emoji from an ever-growing library, and (2) integrating emojis in creative ways to enhance communication. We also discovered that the functionality of emojis continues to expand, offering new possibilities in their appearance, mediums, and usage. Our research explores both the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for human-computer interaction (HCI) researchers in the evolving world of emoji communication.REFERENCE:Chiang, Charles & Gómez-Zará, Diego.
