The Security box, podcast 115: NCSAM week 2, talking about domains

Welcome to program 115 of the Security box. Today, we talk about domains and SSL and plenty of news stuff too. The first hour and a half of the over 3 hour program is news related, check the blog for complete details on things or subscribe to the TSB list itself. Some of the stuff we talk about is already on the blog, others are not, but plan to be. As far as domains go, when we talked about Phishing we mentioned the fact that I published several resources on checking whether a domain exists and when it was registered and possibly by who. This was in reference to an article talking about Ian Phishing scams that might be out there now. Please be safe! Here are two resources: ICANN Lookup Who Is Lookup from Network Solutions There are other tools to look up domains, and we can't forget about the ICANN web site and their work to keep domains at least here in the states in good working order. Another thing we talked about but not in great detail is Transport Layer Security which SSL is now known as. We're providing the Wikipedia page as a reference since I didn't go in to a lot of detail on it. If people want me to, I can do that. If we've forgotten something that we should mention as part of this discussion, please send a note and let me know about it.
