The Self and The Home

from Structures of Self · host Structures of Self

This episode asks many questions, among them: What is our relationship to the space around us? Do we see ourselves as separate from our homes or connected? What changes may arise in that relationship as a result of COVID-19? There are a couple historical and anthropological throwbacks to put in context how we, as humans, generally have viewed the home. The main objective is to better understand the relationship, allow ourselves to ask some questions and develop awareness of the connections between living spaces and ourselves. A little philosophical, a little real world application, a lot of questions. Here's to opening our minds, increasing awareness and staying curious. Resources used and/or mentioned in the episode: At Home: An Anthropology of Domestic Space edited by Irene Cieraad The Psychology of Home: Why Where You Live Means So Much by Julie Beck Life After Covid-19: How the Pandemic make reshape the world as we know it by Juan Sebastian Pinto A Critical History of Domestic Architecture You can find our blog and more info at structuresofself.com and find us on facebook and instagram at @structuresofself
