"The September Storm" is a short story set in a 19th-century harbour town where a returning merchant ship faces a ferocious overnight gale. When Captain Jacob wakes to howling winds and rising floodwaters, he braves the storm alone to reach the wharf — only to find the ship in danger of capsizing.
