The Seven Churches // Pergamum [Revelation 2:12-17] (Mikey Cooper)

This is week 3 of our series on "The Seven Churches" in Revelation, and Mikey Cooper looks at the letter to the Church at Pergamum in Revelation 2:12-17. Starting with an overview of what the city of Pergamum was like, Mikey leads into our passage for today. Mikey builds a framework to help us understand the text and the application we can pull from it by looking back to the story of Balaam in Numbers, followed by the letter to the church at Corinth in 1st Corinthians chapters 8-10, which he uses to give us an overview of the theme that Paul writes across those three chapters that relate to today's passage in regards to eating food sacrificed to idols in verse 14. This all leads to his key question, what is the application for our age? - "What are the things in our culture that undermine our spiritual and moral heart, that we as followers of Jesus still engage in, that we have gotten so used to, that we do not even think about?" Mikey then gives us an example of this, by challenging us to look at this question specifically in relation to the entertainment industry. Mikey then wraps up with a look at the significance of the references in verse 17 before finishing with a couple of challenges.
