The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) of the University of Sharjah (UoS) organized a specialized CubeSat workshop under the theme “Electric Power System,” delivered by the CubeSat Laboratory Engineers at SAASST. The workshop explored CubeSats, the electric power system, and suitable orbits for CubeSat missions. This is part of SAASST’s ongoing efforts to provide students and space enthusiasts with an opportunity to enrich their knowledge and expand their skill in various fields related to astronomy and space sciences. The workshop began with an introduction to the CubeSats, presented by Eng. Abdulrahman Gamil, where he addressed the CubeSats, their sizes, uses, and subsystems. He also highlighted some of the future CubeSats projects like Sharjah-Sat-2. Eng. Yousuf Faroukh discussed the electric power system for generating, storing, and distributing electricity to the satellite Sharjah-Sat-1. He also explained how to calculate the generated and consumed electrical power onboard Sharjah-Sat-1. Eng. Fatima Alketbi presented a lecture on orbital mechanics and selecting suitable orbits for the CubeSat missions, where she highlighted how orbital parameters, like altitude and inclination, impact power generation and addressed various methods to enhance power output, including deploying solar panels at different angles and designs to increase energy generation on the CubeSat and ensure the success of space missions.
