Lorkhan Lorkhan Lorkhan but upon closer inspection this might not actually be the whole truth the names we mentioned were Pelinal, Harald, Harry Breaks and Hans the Fox what seems more likely is that these are all in fact one person we know that Pelinal was not a name but a title and according to the book titled Before the Ages of Man Harald, who was also known as Hans the Fox was one of the original 500 companions was in fact Pelinal, sometimes called the Divine Crusader sometimes believed to have been a Chesarine there is no exact list of Chesarines though there are plenty of theories as a rule, it seems that whenever a champion among men appears with supernatural strength and conviction men are left wondering if it was Lorkin's doing this loose definition certainly applies to Pelinal Whitestrick he was there to help free the tribesmen of the heartlands from the shackles of their alien overlords in some versions, he is actually already wandering through the heartlands murdering elves when he finds Perif later called Alesha in some legends, he speaks a few words to his friend Morahouse after being beheaded in the book The Adabal Ah collected memoirs of Morahouse, these last moments are recorded quote and in the blood-floored throne room of white gold the severed head of Pelinal spoke to winged bull Morahouse demigod lover of all Esh, saying our enemies have undone me and spread my body into hiding in mockery of divine purpose the aliens cut me into eights they are obsessed with this number and Morahouse, confused snorted through his ring saying your crusades went beyond her council Whitestrick but I am a bull and therefore reckless in my wit I think I would go and gore our prisoners if you had left any alive you are blood-made glorious uncle and will come again as fox animal or light Sirad is ours then Pelinal spoke again for the last time beware Morahouse beware with the foresight of death I know now that my foe yet lives bitter knowledge to take to my grave better that I had died believing myself the victor although cast beyond the doors of night you will return be vigilant I can no longer shield the host of men from Umaril's retribution end quote in volume 4 of the Song of Pelinal it is written he stood with white hair gone brown with elf blood at the bridge of Helden where Perif's falconers had sent for the Nords and they, looking at him said that Shore had returned if we read on volume 6 says still others like 5th of New Teed say that beneath Pelinal's star armor was a chest that gaped open to show no heart echoing what we know about Lurkin and how Lurkin was separated from his divine heart his divine center the passage continues saying that in place of a heart Pelinal had only a red rage-shaped diamond fashion singing like a mindless dragon which speaks of the pact that would seal the gates of Oblivion from Mundus the pact that was symbolized by the Kim El Adabal the Amulet of Kings when asked about the Chesserines Michael Kirkbride makes mention of Talos specifically, he lists the individual ingredients that cook up to the quote-unquote oversoul of Talos and the list is as follows the L is for Wolfarth the O is for Hjalti the R is for Dismere the K is for Talos the H for Arctis the A for Septim and then an unnamed N there's much speculation as to who this last member of the Oversoul is but we'll get into that later let's start with Wolfarth it's believed that Wolfarth like Harald was one of Ysgrimor's legendary 500 companions he is sometimes referred to as the Grey Wind the Storm of Kine the Kingmaker sometimes the Ash King he was born in Atmora as all of the 500 companions were and came to Tamriel with Ysgrimor but Wolfarth would eventually become King of Skyrim after Hoag Merkiller falls at the Battle of Clenumbromors most of what we know about Wolfarth comes from the Book of Legends titled The Five Songs of King Wolfarth it's difficult to separate myth from reality in some cases and the book states that Wolfarth's Thume was so potent that he couldn't even speak his oath of office when he became king the agreement was written up and signed whether or not Wolfarth was Dragonborn or if he learned the Thume after a long study it's never really stated but since his shout is so strong people take to calling him Shor's Tongue and sometimes Ysgrimor the Dragon of the North he would not be the last person to hold the title of Ysgrimor either but we'll get into that a little later on as well after becoming the king in Skyrim Wolfarth supposedly fights the Eastern Orcs and shouts their gods into oblivion he rebuilds the 418th step of High Hrothgar he swallows a thundercloud to keep his army from catching a cold and also during this time Orkay an enemy god of the Admorans takes it upon himself to wait war against the Nords he summons a shade of Alduin the World Eater who eats the Nords years away until they are all small children Wolfarth now six years old pleads with Shor to protect the Nords Shor teaches Wolfarth a new shout one that is hilariously called what happens when you shake the dragon just so Wolfarth uses the shout to restore the ages of all of his Nords but in so doing advances his own age too much and dies for the first time he is burned and his ashes dissipate into the atmosphere but this is not the last we see of him before long the Dwemer and the Chimer are challenging each other in battle the Dwemer have found Lorkin's heart and plan on using it to power up to the Numidium and so Dagoth Ur comes to the Nords and asks for their help in battle that they might overcome the Dwemer heathens and return the heart of Lorkin who we won't forget the Nords call Shor back to where it belongs the Nords have no king or general however you can probably see where the story is going the ashes of Wolfarth reconstitute and Wolfarth is made anew they march into the east to battle but at last the Nords have been tricked the Dwemer and the Chimer team up against the Nords and they are routed Wolfarth is blasted back into ash at Red Mountain by none other than Vak himself and so Wolfarth dies for the second time a great wind picks up and blows his ashes from Red Mountain back to Skyrim where he waits his only wish to kill the tribunal that had previously betrayed him he sends storms to assault Morrowind but the elves had grown too strong so Wolfarth retreats underground to wait and gather his strength to perhaps one day return to physical form this is when he is first referred to as the underking like a smear dragon of the north Wolfarth would not be the only person referred to as the underking his rest is disturbed eventually by the most unlikely of people Al-Malaxia herself an invasion of Tamriel has begun during his rest and the Akaviri forces have sacked Wendhelm and are now marching on Morrowind Al-Malaxia asks for aid in fighting this mutual enemy the Akaviri demon Adasum der Kamal when the Kamal is defeated Wolfarth disappears again this time for over 300 years he sleeps for ages until the whispering of the Greybeards wakes him up the Empire lies in ruin this is after the fall of the Raymond dynasty but according to the Greybeards a chosen one has returned to lead the Empire into glory Wolfarth thinks at once that the prophecy is referring to his return so he immediately heads to High Hrothgar to hear the Greybeards speak but when they do alas Wolfarth is blown back into ash he is not the chosen one so instead he floats around in search of the prophesied Emperor not before the Greybeard to give him a warning about a certain upcoming betrayal however he finds the new Emperor in Colovia he is a warrior from Al-Hair in High Rock and he is leading the armies of Kulikain the king in Falkreath his name is Hjalti Earlybeard Hjalti and his army are preparing for a siege of Old Horaldan to retake it from the Reachmen in the night before the siege a storm visits Hjalti in his tent and the storm is Wolfarth Hjalti learns the thume at night and in the morning marches on the fortress with the storm above him the winds bat away arrows that come down from the sky and Hjalti uses his shout which he learned from Wolfarth the night before to tear down the walls of the fortress and that night around the campfires his men refer to him as Talos or Stormcrown we all know this story rather well at this point despite whatever differences we might find in the Arcturian heresy soon Talos is crowned by Zerian Arctus the new Imperial Battle Mage and he takes the Syrodillic name Typer Septim and becomes Emperor unifying Tamriel proves difficult as one might imagine Wolfarth works for Talos behind the scenes but it doesn't seem like Talos is in too many places at once Wolfarth remains and he keeps a low profile Wolfarth works tirelessly for Talos knowing that someday Talos will have to invade Marwind and destroy the tribunal things don't work out that way however as we know Marwind joins the empire through the armistice and the tribunal is allowed to remain in power Wolfarth is furious thinking that this is the betrayal the Graveyard had warned him about he leaves the empire and forsakes the emperor forever so he thinks while Wolfarth is away Talos and Zerian Arctus find out about the new video thinking that this would be the key to conquering Tamriel they seek only to activate it Zerian Arctus believes he can do so using the Mantella the Mantella is a tremendous souljong that would take the place of the heart of Lurkin as the power stores for the Numidium Talos invites Wolfarth back to court telling him that he was right all along and that now he has the means to destroy the tribunal but when Wolfarth arrives the trap is sprung the true betrayal that the Graveyard warned him about becomes obvious Zerian Arctus tries to trap Wolfarth's soul in the Mantella but in the process Wolfarth roars and tears a hole through the battle mage's chest in the end everybody is dead and Typerceptin kind of strolls in to pick up the Mantella as a side note these three people have just reenacted the Rebel and the King and Angeomorph we discussed in a previous episode Typerceptin the Rebel usurps the power of Wolfarth the King and Zerian Arctus the Witness is killed in the process the question remains however who is inside the Mantella was it Wolfarth who was trapped or was it Zerian Arctus are they both in there what happened to the souls when the Numidium was activated if anything some believe that at Talos' Apotheosis as a new god and his fulfillment of Lurkin's empty place in the Pantheon souls of Typerceptin Wolfarth and Zerian Arctus become three parts of the Angeomorphic Oversoul of Talos in this mess of betrayal and death sometimes Zerian Arctus is referred to as the Underking second person who would be referred to as the Underking Talos and all of his fame and glory would also take the name Ismir the Dragon of the North and all of these identities seem to lose their individuality and become part of something greater I believe that this is what Michael Kirpbright is referencing when he writes that Wolfarth represents L Kialt O Ismir R Talos K Arctus H and Septim A and the unnamed N that make up Lurkin now a username Cipher8 on the official Bethesda lore forums has some interesting ideas about the Chisareans in a thread where the original trailer for Skyrim was deconstructed and discussed the discussion goes off on some tangents but the gist of one of the theories is this many of the Chisareans were Nords Harald who is Palenol Wolfarth the Underking Hyalty who is Talos some of the them were kings. Harald may have been a king in Skyrim, Wulfarth we know was a king in Skyrim. And others still have been sent by Lorkhan to aid the dragonborn emperors. Hellen will be sent for Alessia, but Raimin was possibly related to Harald.
Talos had Wulfarth as an advisor. Seeing how the civil war takes place during the events of the game Skyrim and the Dovahkiin basically gets to decide who will A. be the next emperor, or B. be the next king in Skyrim.
The theory proceeds that the next Shazarin, the next incarnation of Lorkhan, is none other than the Dovahkiin, him or herself. It also should be mentioned that during the events of the game Skyrim, the Dovahkiin is sometimes referred to as the Dovasebra, which in the dragon language means Izmir. The title of Izmir, the dragon of the north, and the title of Shazarin are not one and the same, but if we look at history, they seem to be inevitably linked in some way. Of course, this is all speculation, and furthermore, speculation done before the game was ever released.
Some details have changed, others have been fleshed out and experienced rather than just speculated upon, and the truth, perhaps, we may never know. It is, however, an interesting idea. The Thalmor invades the empire, and once again, the men of Tamriel find themselves at odds with the elves. It seems, to me at least, to be an ideal time, for sure, to send an avatar down.
And seeing as how often in history, especially in the cases of Wulfarth and Talos, that the Shazarin is associated with the Thune, perhaps, it is more likely than you might think. Thanks for listening to the Elder World Podcast. Thank you. You
