The Shot Not Taken

Every ethical hunter carries a gallery of shots not taken. The buck quartering too hard. The bird over the neighbor's line. The bull at a distance beyond honest range. Nobody saw the restraint; there's no mount on the wall for it. But those passed shots define a sportsman more than any punched tag ever will.Solomon said a man without self-control is a city with broken walls — open to every raider, defenseless against every impulse. The walls of a man's life are built from exactly these invisible moments: the word swallowed instead of said, the click not made, the drink declined, the purchase passed, the anger held.The world celebrates men who take every shot life offers. God builds His kingdom with men who know which ones to pass. Self-control isn't weakness — it's the wall that keeps everything you love from being sacked.
