The Sign of God's Promise

Water, bread and wine can look like empty rituals. Circumcision marked God's covenant with Abraham: He promised a people, a place and His presence, while warning that covenant breaking brings judgement. Jesus bore that curse for Abraham's unfaithful children, and baptism now points both to God's judgement and to the Redeemer who endured it so His people may live. Because God does not change, His people should trust His promise and honour baptism, public profession of faith and the Lord's Supper. Bible Reference: Genesis 17 Preacher: KJ Tromp
