He tells her about the boat chase, and she seems terrified at the danger she put Watson and Holmes into. Watson proceeds to open the chest, and when he lifts the lid, they find the crate empty. Watson lets out a "Thank God" and confesses his love to miss Morstan saying that the treasure would have separated them. She reciprocates his love.
