The Sinking of the Mary Rose

On July 19, 1545, Henry VIII’s warship the Mary Rose heeled over and sank in the Solent, less than two miles from where the king stood watching. She had served for thirty-four years. She went down in minutes, taking most of her crew of four hundred to five hundred men with her. Historians still argue over why.
