The Sixers Rise & Challenges Persist (PST Show #341)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

The Philadelphia 76'ers are starting to rise, as expected, within the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division. While we know and see the talent on this team, there are still challenges that remain evident here in December. This week, Emily Anderson, writer and contributor at LibertyBallers.com, joined us for a look at this Sixers team and what we can expect from Embiid, Simmons, Thybulle, and other talent in the future. But first, we interviewed Johnny Avello from DraftKings about sports and online betting, and where the industry has taken us. (approx. 4:45)Then we discussed how the Eagles are still alive this season, how Carson Wentz had an incredible game against the Giants, and the fact that this team and organization still needs major restructuring in the offiseason. (approx. 18:00)We then got into some Phillies talk and gave our thoughts on the Zach Wheeler and Didi Gregorius deals that were signed this past week. (approx. 27:30)From there, we talked about how the Flyers are fun team to watch this season as they've gotten away from the mediocre on-the-ice play we've been so used to seeing from year to year. (approx. 35:55)This week on the Highbrow Segment, we referenced an article in The Athletic that discussed how there may be significant changes coming to the way Major League Baseball handles free agency. Might we see the NBA 2.0 in baseball in the future? (approx. 42:40)Then on our Lowbrow Segment, it's a new top-3 list. In honor of the holiday and Christmas season, we're going to give out our top-3 biggest Grinches in the sports world. (approx. 55:50)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Emily Anderson from Liberty Ballers about the current state of this Sixers team, their rise, and the challenges we see this season. First, we discuss how Joel Embiid has been having a disappointing season and why. From there, we dove into how Ben Simmons has continued to develop and where he needs to get better. Should Matisse Thybulle be given more minutes on the court given his awesome performances as of late? What talent should Elton Brand look to possibly bring in before the trade deadline? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (approx. 1:14:45)
