Presented with Professor Steven Wilkinson and Mona Mehta of the University of Chicago. The Gujarat violence was a series of communal riots that took place in the Indian State of Gujarat from February to May 2002, involving violence between Hindus and Muslims. Official estimates of the death toll tabled in the Indian parliament reported 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus killed, as well as 223 people missing and 2,548 injured. Co-Sponsored by the South Asia Language and Area Center and the Committee on Southern Asian Studies.
