The Sleeping Apple

"The Sleeping Apple" is a short story for children in which a little girl stands beneath a tree, desperately trying to coax a rosy-cheeked apple down from its branch. She enlists the warm sun to kiss it awake and a songbird to serenade it — but the apple sleeps on, seemingly laughing at her efforts.
