The Solar Eclipse

Using a solar eclipse as his starting point, Charles Spurgeon explains that just as eclipses are a normal and necessary part of how the solar system works, hard times and suffering are a normal and necessary part of God's plan for both the world and individual people. He warns that just like the moon blocks the sun, the good things in our lives can crowd out God if we love them more than we love Him, which is often why God allows those comforts to be taken away. Finally, Spurgeon urges anyone without faith in Christ to recognize that physical death will bring a permanent "total eclipse" of all joy, unless they trust in Jesus, whose death pays for the sins of all who humbly admit they need saving.Sermon delivered on March 14th, 1858.
