The Solemnity of The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Today we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist, and the readings share a common thread: God's hand at work in a life set apart from its very beginning. Isaiah speaks of a servant called and shaped before birth for a mission far greater than he imagined, while the Gospel recounts the surprising arrival of John and the first signs that something extraordinary has begun.
