The Soul Goals, Episode 25: Dylan Hough

from The Soul Goals · host Dawn

Send us Fan MailFor Dylan Hough, beach volleyball has been a passion for years.  From his start as a player to now being a D1 collegiate beach volleyball coach at Jacksonville University in Florida, his drive and determination never wavered in working towards his goals, even when he was sleeping in his car or couch surfing.   In 2021, being named to the “30 under 30” volleyball coach’s list was such validation for him, showing him that his staying-the-course of following his dreams was worth it.Along the way to his current career, Dylan found himself coaching for free, working side jobs to make ends meet, and getting to play and train alongside coaches and athletes that found him expanding his base of knowledge of the game.  Life was preparing him to jump through the door that would eventually open and find him coaching in a growing program at a beautiful university. As a first time head college coach, brought on during the Covid landscape, Dylan faced a number of obstacles, having to recruit 10 players his first year out (all done via text, Zoom, FaceTime, and phone calls.)  No small feat, he jumped in and tackled the task, learning the head coach process throughout his first season with ups and downs.  All the while, though, Dylan knew that this was the place he had always strived to be as he faced the challenge head on with excitement and motivation.Dylan just celebrated his third season opener as the Jacksonville Beach Volleyball head coach this past weekend with a team of athletes committed to working and following their own dreams.  He expresses to his team regularly the importance of appreciating the day and not taking for granted the gift of this game and what it offers.  He is pumped for this season and eager to continue pouring in to his team!  Phins UP, y’all!Everyone has a story, and every story matters!Support the showThank you for lending your time to The Soul Goals today!  If you enjoy the content, we'd love to have you subscribe and write a review! You can also find more of The Soul Goals on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube!https://instagram.com/the_soul_goals?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==https://www.facebook.com/TheSoulGoals?mibextid=LQQJ4dhttps://youtube.com/@TheSoulGoalsPodcast?si=XvgQQnixi-SmMGg7If you have an idea for an episode or would like to share your own story, we'd love to hear from you!  Email [email protected]
