from Exhibitionistas: Notes on Art · host Joana P. R. Neves, art curator and writer
Are you ready for a poetic and existential art travelogue? Our host, curator and writer Joana P. R. Neves, invites you on a new 'art stories' episode, where art, drawing, language and sound turns contemporary art into a meditative form of art-making engaging the spectator in a poetic and existential voyage. She shares her curatorial adventure with the German-Italian artist Irma Blank, the closest she's ever had to a mentor. But a mindful art practice can hold turbulences: indeed, how did minimal and conceptual artist Irma Blank express her cultural displacement artistically?Did you enjoy the episode? Think about supporting Exhibitionistas by leaving a small donation: https://buymeacoffee.com/exhibitionistaContemporary drawing is one of art's best kept secrets. Led by Blank's discovery of sound within the daily practice of drawing, this episode is a sonic wandering and a philosophical exploration of the artist's work, engaging with recent technological changes. How can a minimal and poetic practice face such specific issues? What is the role of the artist facing a global net of information which connects us as much as it separates us? And what is the value of communication – and of silence? Irma Blank has taught Joana that and much more. This is the first turn into a more experimental approach to podcasting, exploring its sound and image potential, perfect to transmit art through the senses as much as it does through the word. This episode is an excerpt of a lecture of the 3rd of February 2025 at ABK Stuttgart whose title was "The Paper is Impatient", under the invitation of the drawing department, and their teachers Katrin Ströbel and Hanna Hennenkemper. The « drawing sounds » are excerpts of Irma Blank’s recordings of the sound of each of her series.
