Working and middle class leftists from the United States to Germany to China traveled to Spain to defend the Spanish Republic against a right-wing coalition of Spanish nationalists, Italian Fascists and German Nazis. In the midst of the vicious conflict, millions of working class militants seize the moment and launch a social revolution in the midst of war.
