The Spring ThingA month of spring,Joyous thing,But dangerous too.How dare youExpend such love?It seems extremeWhen you considerYou might get hurtWith all that love lying about.So you rolled up the grassAnd pulled in the flowers.A month was enoughSpring for one year.And you said to yourselfPerhaps that spring thingWas just a fling.But summer and fall were all a drawlWithout spring.And winter was worst of allAnd wouldn't give way.For without spring,There was no...spring,You know, the bouncy thingThat keeps it all movingThe whole year round.And so you did your best to recallBack past winter and before the fall,Before the summerTo the very spring thingYou'd called a fling.And there in your memoryAll cramped and small,In a far away cornerNot very tall,Stood the very love thingThat had started it all.But he whimpered and criedAnd started to bawl.He said "I'm so smallAnd not very tall.Don't spread me aboutI'm sure to be mauled!"But you closed your eyesAnd grabbed that love thingAnd started to spread itAround with a zing!And though at firstIt hurt something terrible,Soon you foundIt was better than bearable.And that the thingYou'd wanted all alongWas spring.So now with every chance you get,You spread the love thingAnd not just in spring.For love is the very best thing of allFor turning the seasons,Winter, spring, summer and fall.
