The String of Pearls Unknown The tale of Sweeney Todd has had many incarnations, most famously the stage and movie musical by Stephen Sondheim. But it all started in 1846 with a serialized telling of the story titled “The String of Pearls” in the weekly magazine “The People's Periodical and Family Library”. Called by some a romance, by others a horror story, it is one of the earliest murder mysteries. In “The String of Pearls”, Sweeney Todd is less sympathetic than in some of his later incarnations – a perfect villain, totally self-seeking with no redeeming qualities. How the deeds of Todd are uncovered and how he is brought to justice make a most intriguing tale, but one probably not suited for the very young and certainly not for the squeamish. (Summary by John Lieder). Primrose Path, The by Bram Stoker (1847 - 1912) LibriVox This 1875 serialised novella appeared in The Shamrock magazine in 5 installments. It is Bram Stoker's first novel, being published 22 years before his famous 'Dracula'. It tells the story of a happy Irish family, the O'Sullivans, who leave their straightforward Dublin life behind to go to London, to follow Jerry O'Sullivan's dream of becoming a theatrical carpenter. With his wife, Katey, at his side, they are beset by many misfortunes. The squalor and depravity of London seep into their lives and tragedy ensues. - Summary by jakemalizia Coffee With K. K. Price The mission? To give ear to the topics and stories of Christians who were once living on the margins of common society. We'll be discussing the hard topics, the squeamish ones some Christians have strong convictions about without the experience or full understanding attached to it. The point is to encourage and equip the saints, and to bring those who have yet to believe into the family of God- those who may feel like they're living on the outside. It's going to be real, there might be spills, but hey- there will be coffee! My name is Sam Moffett, I am a portly DJ and Learning Support Assistant based in Brighton UK. But not for long; I just got a volunteer job for a non-government organisation working off the coast of Kenya with whales and dolphins! In this podcast series I am going to record my trip and attempt to cover what happens when you (attempt to) do a Marine Conservation job from a standing start with absolutely no experience whatsoever. Ups, downs, and, I suspect a lot of squeaking and clicking. Music for this podcast series is kindly supplied by Giles Wood & Moonbeam JonesI hope you enjoy it! Sam Hosted on Acast.
