The Starting Point

from Bible Highlights · host Cleandro Viana

The Starting Point “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” — Proverbs 1:7 We live in a time of instant answers and endless information. With just a few taps on our phones, we can access anything — science, philosophy, technology, opinions from influencers, and viral content. Yet, in the middle of this information overload, many young people still feel lost, empty, or confused. Why? Because, as Proverbs 1:7 teaches us, true knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord. This fear isn’t about being scared — it’s about deep respect, love, and a desire to honor God for who He is. It’s recognizing that His way is always best, even when the world offers more tempting or popular options. To fear the Lord means asking questions like: - “What does God think about this?” - “Will this bring me closer to Him or push me away?” - “Am I seeking truth with humility, or just trying to prove I’m right?” A wise young person isn’t the one who knows everything, but the one who knows where to find the truth — and that truth is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. On the other hand, fools — as this verse says — are those who reject God’s wisdom. They think they’ve got it all figured out, believe they don’t need God, or view the Bible as outdated. But without God, even the greatest knowledge becomes empty pride that leads us away from the life we were created for. Practical Application: - Before making big decisions, take time to pray: “Lord, does this honor You? - Read the Bible with an open heart, not just for information, but to hear God’s voice. - Stay humble while learning. Without God, even brilliant knowledge loses its purpose. Prayer: “Lord, I want to begin my pursuit of knowledge by putting You first. Give me true wisdom — the kind that transforms my heart and leads me into Your will. Teach me to fear You with love, to honor You in all I do, and to walk the path that leads to eternal life. In Jesus’ name, amen.” Today’s Challenge: Write down or type this phrase: “Today, I choose to start with God.” Before every task, class, conversation, or challenge, remember: true wisdom begins with Him.
