The Station at Mile 14

from Streetlight Burials — Fexingo Horror · host Fexingo

In the autumn of 2003, I found myself in Red Bluff, South Dakota — a town that seemed to exist only as a rumor between truck stops. I was tracing the origin of a set of hand-carved wooden figures that kept appearing in antique shops along a two-hundred-mile stretch of highway. Every one of them was a bird. Every one of them had its wings folded tight against its body. The last one led me to an old Esso station at mile marker 14 on County Road 9, a place the locals called 'the station that waited.' The man who ran it, a soft-spoken widower named Elias, told me about the crows. But it wasn't the crows that mattered — it was what they carried. This is a story about a road that gets narrower the longer you stay on it, and about the things you find when you stop looking for the way back. #RedBluff #SouthDakota #Mile14 #Elias #TheStationThatWaited #WoodenBirds #Crows #CountyRoad9 #EssoStation #Autumn2003 #HighwayBurials #RoadHorror #Atmospheric #SlowBurn #AntiqueShop #HandCarved #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #StreetlightBurials #UrbanHorror Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
