The Station at the Edge of Colby Grade

In the winter of 2019, a fire lookout named June vanished from the Colby Grade tower in the Monongahela National Forest. She left behind a logbook, a half-drunk thermos of coffee, and a single entry that read: 'They're not bears.' I found the tower six months later, boarded up but not sealed. The stairs groaned under my boots. The window glass was cracked from the inside.
