The stories aren’t what’s holding us back with Samantha King

from Can't Call Your Mom with Nicole Weston · host Nicole Weston | Motherless mothers navigating life after motherloss

“The stories aren’t what’s holding us back. It’s the comparing, shaming and guilting that is”.  I sat down with Samantha King as we shared our experiences of motherhood. I love her message of staying true to the fact that we all have a story and that is enough to connect us all and unite. Samantha shares she “is trying to lead by example and help women on the same mission as me to make the biggest ripple we can while we’re here. However, the biggest thing about my story (which includes all kinds of obstacles + plot twists) is that it’s not about my story. We all have stories. Some of them overlap and some of them don’t. The stories aren’t what’s holding us back. It’s the comparing, shaming and guilting that is. I share my story to let women know that they are not alone in their challenges in the hopes that it will help unite us as women and mothers and stop the comparing, shaming and guilting “. “After my second child was born, the anxiety I have lived with my whole life kicked into full gear and postpartum depression came with it. And the more I share my story, I realize that there are many women out there who feel alone. They are scared to share and speak up for fear of mom shaming. They feel overwhelming guilt after comparing themselves to what they’re seeing and hearing around them. I am on a mission to make a dent in that culture by sharing my own stories in a raw and real way”.
