The Stories We Tell: A lesson from my compartment syndrome
from Unreal Results for Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers · host Anna Hartman
In this episode, I share a story about how I recently learned the reason I hate hiking is actually likely due to an undiagnosed medical condition. With help from my friend, Lex Lancaster, she asked the right questions while we were on a hike (she sold it as a walk) and shared a case with me that made it clear that the uncomfortable feeling I get in my legs while hiking is not from tight calves and being "out of shape" but likely chronic extertional compartment syndrome. This story highlights how powerful the stories we tell ourselves and our clients are and discusses compartment syndrome and its systemic nature. This is the beginning of my journey with compartment syndrome, and I share my general plan for rehab.
