"The Story Of David" Week 2

1 Samuel 17:1-58This week, we finally come to the most famous story in all of 1 Samuel: David and Goliath. We have all heard this story so many times in church, in the preschool department, in the children’s classes, and in the student classes. But how deep into it do we really look? Do we only see ourselves as David and a conquering hero, overcoming all of our trials in life? Or do we look deeper and see a full gospel message? Don’t miss this coming Sunday as we see the gospel of full display in this next message in our series. If you have lost friends and loved ones, you need to invite them to come with you to hear this message this week. Pray that their hearts will be open to hear the life-changing truth of the gospel displayed in this “nursery room” story. The overall series through 1 Samuel is called Choose Your King. The book of 1 Samuel contains the record of the calling of the nation of Israel’s first kings. These earthly kings had significant victories in their lives and some devastating failures. We will see our own victories and failures as we look at their lives. But above all, we will see that God, embodied in HIs son Jesus, is the only perfect king and the one we need to follow. Because of the length of the overall book, we will break the series up into several smaller mini-series organized around the central characters.
