"Motu means island, and Mānawa means, among other things, mangrove. The mangrove is Avicennia marina australasica, a native species to New Zealand for the past millions of years. Motu Mānawa is known also as Pollen Island, and the island obscured today by a motorway, Motu Te Kou, means fish hook. It is known also as Traherne Island..."
