The Story of Rock and Roll: S6E1

from The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show · host James Daubeney

Welcome to 2023 and Season 6 of the Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show.  Episode 1 got going on 5 Jan 2023 on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 with a track called 'Emaheeval' by Desperado.  Desperado was a post-Twisted Sister band comprising Dee Snider, Bernie Tormé, Clive Burr, and Marc Russell.  It's an excellent album that was shelved in a nasty bit of spite by Bob Krasnow and it’s a pity because if it had been released at the time it would have done well.  Dee has done OK though.  Next up Aerosmith with Walk This Way, what a riff!!  Joe Perry at his finest.  We continued with some Thundermother out of Stockholm, who are doing a great job of paying reparations for the music ABBA subjected the world to in the '70s, nice work ladies, and thank you 😊.   We had a bit of US Punk with The Offspring and Anti-Flag and then went back into the late ‘80s for some White Lion and Bulletboys with 'Kid With a 1000 Faces' and 'Badlands' respectively.   Australia's finest gave us a track called ‘This Means War’ which reminded me of Blue Suede Shoes for some reason, I am talking about ACDC of course.  From there we went bluesy with Rory Gallagher and South Africa’s very own Dan Patlansky who has done so well with his latest release Shelter of Bones.  Next, back to Australia for some Electric Mary and a track called ‘One in a Million’, then we went to France for Laura Cox with a song called 'Australian Rock', it's confusing I know, all this Aussie stuff.  Laura Cox is really putting out some good stuff, check her out.  Metallica and Hellyeah made things heavy again and then we took some time out to listen to an absolute ‘70s Rock Classic in the form of ‘Can’t You hear Me Knocking’ off Sticky Fingers.  This masterpiece from The Rolling Stones marks the start of the plan to play more ‘70’s over 7 min classics in Season 6.   We hit the last hour with some UK Punk, ‘Mary of the Fourth Form’ from The Boomtown Rats and ‘Duchess’ from the Stranglers.  We had Thunder off their latest release Dopamine and then a track from Sakis Tolis off the Among the Fires of Hell album, we stayed heavy with Soilwork and a track called ‘Harvest Spine’.  There was a lot from the ladies on this show, we heard a  band called Love Bites out of Japan, The Donnas, and something newish from Brody Dalle and her band The Distillers.  It comes from an album called Live In Lockdown.  We went out blazing with Obituary and the title track off the forthcoming ‘Dying of Everything’.   Artists featured:  Desperado, Aerosmith. Leslie West, Thunder Mother, The L.A. Maybe, The Offspring, Anti-Flag, Bulletboys, White Lion, ACDC, Jorn, Rory Gallagher, Dan Patlansky, Electric Mary, Laura Cox, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Hellyeah, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Dino Jelusic, Buckcherry, The Rolling Stones, The Boomtown Rats, The Stranglers, Thunder, The Dead Daisies, Sakis Tolis, Soilwork, Rush, Pride & Glory, Love Bites, Blue Scream, Man As Machine, The Distillers, The Donnas, Obituary, Eluveitie.  The Story of Rock and Roll.  TSORR - Your one-stop shop for Rock
