Arthur Leslie Morton | 16 July 2026 Published in 1949 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the execution of Charles I, this short pamphlet gives a wonderful overview of the real content and meaning of the earth-shaking event that was the English revolution. The image shows the title page of the Levellers’ first proposed Agreement of the People, published in 1647. In the end, its demands were too extreme for the rising bourgeois class to tolerate and its leaders were suppressed.
