The Storyteller || The Founder || The Belonging Champion with Jodie Bentley

from not a straight line · host Peter Daly-Dickson

Jodie Bentley is an actor, coach, and entrepreneur whose journey began at age 10 when she discovered theater playing Marta in "The Sound of Music." Growing up with a sister who had cognitive disabilities, Jodie learned early to be the "perfect child," always putting others' needs before her own. This pattern of caretaking shaped her identity but also created a deep-seated belief that her value came from what she did for others rather than who she was.Despite earning a BFA in acting from NYU, Jodie struggled for eight years post-graduation, battling limiting beliefs about her worthiness to make money as an artist. The turning point came when she immersed herself in business literature and developed systems to approach her acting career strategically. Within six months, opportunities flourished, leading her to book numerous commercials and establish herself professionally in New York.Life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early thirties. Throughout treatment that forced her into early menopause, Jodie continued coaching others, finding that serving others provided healing during her own struggle. After recovery, with hormones returning to normal, she gained clarity about her unhappy marriage and made the bold decision to divorce.Moving to Los Angeles represented another significant pivot, opening new doors in on-camera work, producing, and screenwriting. Along the way, she reconnected with her high school sweetheart who is now her husband, creating a sense of coming home to herself while pursuing new creative ventures.Today, Jodie balances multiple passions – acting, coaching, teaching, and developing her software business for actors. Her core mission remains helping others feel seen, heard, and like they belong, a direct reflection of her childhood experiences. As she continues evolving, she's learning to value her being over her doing, embracing the truth that she is enough exactly as she is.Find out more about JodieWebsitesJodie Bentley - https://jodiebentley.com/Actor Insider - https://actor-insider.com/The Actor's Office - https://www.theactorsoffice.com/Social MediaLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jodiebentley/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/jodiebentley/Thanks for listening to 'not a straight line'!If this conversation inspired you, please leave me a Rating & Review!
