"The Strawberry Thief" is a short story about two poor siblings, Fried and Lorchen, who spend an afternoon deep in the forest gathering strawberries to help their widowed mother buy bread. When their filled jars vanish before they can head home, Fried refuses to return empty-handed and ventures alone into the darkening woods.
