The Struggle is Real — Grief

Continuing the series on hard emotions, this message offers a pastoral and expository look at grief, grounded in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 . It is offered as a pastor's perspective shaped by years of funerals, hospital rooms, and walking with families through loss, not as professional counsel. Several myths are addressed: that death ends existence, that Christians should not grieve, that grieving signals weak faith. Scripture instead frames death as real and grieving as healthy, even spiritual; we grieve because we love, and to suppress it is to miss the comfort God gives to those who mourn. The distinguishing mark for believers is hope, the confident expectation grounded in God's faithfulness. Paul's words point to reunion with those who have died in Christ and a future in the presence of the Savior, so that grief, without ceasing to be grief, can give way to genuine joy.
