The Suffering King - Audio
from Salem Magley Church Podcast · host Chris Hirschy
On Palm Sunday, Jesus enters Jerusalem as king. Crowds gather. Palms are waved. Voices cry out, “Hosanna.” Everything about the moment feels like the arrival of a victorious ruler. But within days, that same king will be rejected, humiliated, and crucified. So what kind of king is Jesus? In this message, we walk through the beginning of Holy Week and see that Jesus does not claim power the way we expect. He does not grasp for authority or demand recognition. Instead, he humbles himself, taking on the role of a servant and willingly walking the path of suffering. Philippians 2 reminds us that though Jesus was in very nature God, he emptied himself. Isaiah 50 shows us that this suffering was not accidental—it was embraced. And Matthew 21 reveals that even as he entered Jerusalem as king, he was already moving toward the cross. Jesus is our suffering king. This episode invites you to slow down and walk through the full story of Holy Week. Not just the celebration of Palm Sunday. Not just the victory of Easter. But the suffering in between. Because we cannot understand the resurrection without the cross.
