The Superlatives: "Spy"
from In-Between Media
We went back and rewatched Spy, Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy's 2015 spy comedy, to see if it still holds up over a decade later. McCarthy plays a deskbound CIA analyst thrust into field work when her partner's cover gets blown, and the whole thing works way better than a lot of comedies from this era. We're giving our full reaction. We're breaking down why this might be McCarthy's best comedic performance, Jason Statham's scene-stealing parody of his own tough-guy persona, and Rose Byrne's icy villain turn that a lot of people forget is one of the funniest parts of the movie. We're also getting into the action choreography, which is genuinely more competent than most straight spy movies bother with, and why the balance of raunchy comedy and real stakes still lands in 2026. Is Spy still one of the best studio comedies of the 2010s, or does nostalgia do some heavy lifting here? We're giving our honest verdict. Let us know in the comments if this one holds up for you too. 🔔 Subscribe for more comedy rewatch reviews every week! #Spy #MelissaMcCarthy #PaulFeig #JasonStatham #ComedyMovie #MovieRewatch Hosted on Acast.
