Communion is one of the most practiced yet most misunderstood moments in the Christian faith. Its roots stretch back 1,500 years before Christ, to the night God commanded Moses and the Israelites to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb so that death would pass over them. When Jesus gathered with His disciples at the Last Supper, He took that ancient Passover meal and transformed it into something entirely new. He declared Himself to be the Lamb, the once-for-all sacrifice that would cover not just one nation for one night, but every person for all of eternity. Approaching communion well means looking in four directions: backward to the Passover, upward to Christ, inward at your own need for grace, and around at the community of believers sharing the moment with you. The table is not a ritual to rush through. It is one of the most significant moments you can experience as a follower of Jesus.
