The Testimony of the Father // John 5:31-40

Jesus has been accused of Sabbath breaking and blasphemy--making Himself equal with the Father. In verses 19 through 30 Jesus made it clear that He is equal with the Father. In our text this morning, Jesus boldly states that the Father bears witness to His claims. The Father bears witness through 1) John the Baptist 2) the works Jesus does 3) the Scriptures. Because it is only through Scripture we can see any of this we see how important it is for the Pastor to center on preaching the word soundly and in a way that presents Christ.
