In the late summer of 1998, I drove down a dead-end gravel road off Highway 15 in Union Parish, Louisiana, to find out why the fish had stopped biting in Bayou D'Arbonne. Old man Theriot told me about the bridge that shouldn't have been there, and the pale thing that lived underneath it. He said it had been waiting since before the parish was surveyed.
